The Cease Hate for Revenue coalition and its supporters will likely be becoming a member of in every week of motion on Instagram this week, calling for father or mother firm Fb to take motion to deal with racism, hate, violence and disinformation on its platforms.
Katy Perry is among the many members, and took to Instagram on Tuesday (Sept. 15) to share her ideas and a quote by writer George Orwell: “In a time of deceit telling the reality is a revolutionary act.”
“I really like sharing my music and my life with you on Instagram and Fb, however TBH I can’t sit idly by whereas these platforms flip a blind eye to teams and posts spreading hateful disinformation and intentional confusion,” she wrote. I’m standing with @naacp, @colorofchange, and @adl_national and will likely be freezing my Instagram and Fb accounts on Wednesday, September 16th to inform Fb to #StopHateForProfit.”

The coalition is led by 9 civil rights and advocacy organizations: ADL (Anti-Defamation League), Coloration of Change, Widespread Sense, Free Press, LULAC, Mozilla, NAACP, Nationwide Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) and Sleeping Giants.
The actions they’ve inspired embody a one-day freeze on Instagram sharing in addition to a weeklong sequence of posts calling out Fb.
